Kakegawa Castle was built by the protagonist of the NHK Taiga drama "Koumyou ga Tsuji," Lord Yamauchi Kazutoyo, and is known for being the first authentic wooden castle tower in Japan. The Ninomaru Goten, which was rebuilt in 1861, has been designated as an important cultural property by the government.
