Kogei-Kan Bentwood Workshop
Experience making bentwood, a valuable item since the Heian period
Bentwood refers to a container made by bending raw wooden boards such as cedar and cypress into curves using a special technique, joining the seams with cherry bark, and attaching a bottom. Among such bentwood containers, only the Odate bentwood has been designated as a traditional craft. At the facility where you can experience making Odate bentwood, you can mainly experience bending and binding birch bark. The lunch eaten in a bentwood lunch box that you actually made should taste even more delicious than usual!
