相模湾沿いの細長い平地より石造りの鳥居をくぐり千百五十九段久能山東照宮までの石段を登り次第に眼下に望む景色の変化がとても素晴らしいですね。疲労感が積み重なってどうなるのやら？と思っていたら相模湾を借景として一望できる一の門に到達！木造りの額縁効果も有り本当に秀逸なマリアージュです。本殿の造形美も惚れ惚れします。家康公の墓所は格別です。

久能山東照宮について久能山東照宮は、徳川家康公をご祭神としておまつりする全国東照宮の創祀です。徳川家康公は、天文11年（1542年）12月26日三河国岡崎城（愛知県岡崎市）にお生まれになり、あらゆる艱難辛苦の末、戦乱の世に終止符を打ち、江戸時代260余年にわたる世界に其の比を見ない「泰平の世」の礎を築かれ、学問、産業、文化の基礎を確立し近世日本の発展に偉大な功績を残されました。晩年は大御所として駿府城に在りましたが、元和2年（1616年）4月17日、波乱に満ちた75年の生涯を閉じられました。徳川家康公は生前、家臣に対し、自分の死後について「遺体は駿河国の久能山に葬り、江戸の増上寺で葬儀を行い、三河国の大樹寺に位牌を納め、一周忌が過ぎて後、下野の日光山に小堂を建てて勧請せよ、八州の鎮守になろう」（『本光国師日記』より）との遺言を残されました。この御遺命により御遺骸を久能山に埋葬し、その地に2代将軍秀忠公の命により久能山東照宮が創建されました。

東照大権現徳川家康公を祀る神社。江戸幕府の威信をかけて作られただけに豪華やね。境内は階段がかなりキツいので注意。参拝時間は１時間くらい、博物館にも入るなら３０分〜１時間くらいプラス。境内入場料は５００円、久能山東照宮博物館にも入るなら、セット券で８００円。アクセスは久能山下から１１５９段登るか、日本平からロープウェイ乗車するかの２つ。久能山下、日本平共に駐車場あり。公共交通機関で行くなら、新静岡駅〜静岡駅〜東静岡駅〜日本平ロープウェイ行きの静鉄バスに乗車。バスは１時間辺り１往復で、静岡駅から４５分くらい。個人的にはロープウェイ代はかかるけど、日本平から行く事をオススメします。
