History

The Natural Art and History of Joren Waterfall
Joren Waterfall was born approximately 17,000 years ago when Mount Hachikubo, located 1 km southeast of the waterfall, erupted. At that time, lava flowing from Mount Hachikubo formed the shape of the waterfall, creating a magnificent work of natural art. The cliffs that form the waterfall display regularly shaped columnar joints formed as the lava cooled. These joints offer a glimpse of the beauty of natural formation. After 17,000 years, come visit Joren Waterfall and feel the history of how it was born.
