At Atsumi Onsen, there are three open-air footbaths. "Anbe-yu" is located in the middle of the road and was named after the word "avenue," meaning a street or an avenue, and "anbai," a local dialect word meaning health or condition. It's a footbath in the center of the hot spring town where locals and tourists gather to relax while warming their feet. "Mokke-yu" is located along the Warm Sea River, and "mokke" is a word in the Tsuruoka dialect that means gratitude. You can enjoy the scenery of the four seasons while listening to the sound of the Warm Sea River while soaking in the footbath. In spring, you can feel the breath of nature, such as cherry blossoms, in summer, the sound of the Japanese tree frog, and in autumn, the upstream migration of salmon. "Moshie-yu" is attached to the footbath cafe "Chitto Moshe." "Moshie" means "a little interesting" in the local dialect, and as the name suggests, you can enjoy meals and drinks while soaking in the footbath. Access in 5 Minutes by Car from Atsumi Onsen IC!
To access Atsumi Onsen by public transportation, take the Shonai Kotsu bus bound for Atsumi Onsen from JR Atsumi Onsen Station. The bus ride takes about 7 minutes, and you can get off at bus stops such as Ashiyu Anbe-yu Mae. If you are using a private car, take Prefectural Route 44 via Atsumi Onsen IC on the Nihonkai Tohoku Expressway and drive for about 3km, which takes about 5 minutes, to arrive at the hot spring resort.
