The Ken Domon Memorial Museum was opened in 1983, after Ken Domon, a giant in the world of photography, became the first honorary citizen of Sakata City and donated all of his works to his hometown. It was the first museum in Japan dedicated solely to photography. The museum houses approximately 135,000 of Ken Domon's works, including his life's work, "Pilgrimage to Ancient Temples," as well as "Muroji Temple," "Hiroshima," "Children of Chikuhou," "Bunraku," and "Fuzou." These works are carefully preserved and can be appreciated by many people across generations. Through Ken Domon's works, the museum allows visitors to deeply experience the world of his art.
