Rikugien

The general admission fee is 300 yen, while those aged 65 and above pay 150 yen. Elementary school students and junior high school students living or studying in Tokyo are free. For groups of 20 or more, the fee is 240 yen for adults and 120 yen for those aged 65 and above. Free admission days are May 4th (Greenery Day) and October 1st (Tokyo Citizens' Day). An annual passport for Rikugien Garden only costs 1,200 yen for adults and 600 yen for those aged 65 and above. A common admission ticket for Rikugien Garden and the Former Furukawa Garden (Garden Combination Ticket) costs 400 yen for adults and 200 yen for those aged 65 and above.

Rikugien Garden is a 10-minute walk from JR Yamanote Line's "Komagome Station" in the center of Tokyo. Alternatively, it's a 10-minute walk from Toei Mita Line's "Senkoku Station". If you're using the bus, the "25: Rikugien Entrance" on the B-guru (Sendagi-Komagome Route) community bus in Bunkyo Ward is convenient. There is no dedicated parking lot at Rikugien Garden, so please park at a nearby coin parking lot if you visit by car.

Rikugien Garden was created in 1695 by Yanagisawa Yoshiyasu, who was a chamberlain at the time and received the land in Komagome as a lower residence from the fifth shogun, Tokugawa Tsunayoshi. Over the course of seven years, Yanagisawa himself designed and directed the creation of a "strolling-style mountain retreat and pond garden" by digging a pond and building a mountain in a flat corner of Musashino. Since its creation, it has been counted as one of the two major gardens in Edo along with Koishikawa Korakuen Garden. At the time, it was a private residence and not open to the public, but in 1938 it was donated to the Tokyo Metropolitan Government and opened to the public.
