History

The Source of Healing, an Eternal Story
The history of Shuzenji Onsen is colored by a wonderful legend that has been passed down since ancient times. It dates back to the year 807 in the Heian period. One day during the Heian period, a filial son was pained by his beloved father's illness and washed his body with the pure water of a river. By chance, a wise monk happened to pass by and was impressed by the scene, so he struck a rock with his staff. As a result, a mysterious spring gushed forth, and the hot spring was born. When the father soaked in the hot spring, a miraculous event occurred where his illness was miraculously cured, and he regained his health. This moving legend is the origin of Shuzenji Onsen, and it has been passed down with the warm water for a long time. As a historic hot spring resort, it is loved by many people who visit seeking healing for their mind and body.
