Located in the mountains at an altitude of about 750 meters, this area was bustling as a mountain town with the mining headquarters of the Besshi Copper Mine from the Taisho to early Showa periods. There are many industrial heritage sites such as the Besshi Copper Mine's storage warehouse and incline remains. In addition to the Higashihira History Museum, Mine Workshop, and Flower Garden, it also serves as a starting point for climbing the Copper Mine Pass and Nishiakaishi Mountain. Guided sightseeing buses (for a fee) operate from the terminal zone.
