The Denkoku no Mori (Uesugi Museum) is a museum located adjacent to Matsugasaki Park in Yonezawa City. The museum is also located on the site of the Honmaru (main keep) of Yonezawa Castle and houses valuable items related to the Uesugi family. The highlight of the museum is undoubtedly the national treasure "Uesugi Hon'ami Choukokuchuu Gai-zu Byoubu" (Uesugi Folding Screen of Kyoto and Surroundings). This folding screen depicts everyday scenes of Kyoto and is said to have been presented by Oda Nobunaga to Uesugi Kenshin. The screen depicts approximately 2,500 people of various social statuses, as well as animals, plants, famous places, and festivals of Kyoto at the time, providing a glimpse into the city's culture. While replicas are usually on display, the original is exhibited for a limited time during special exhibitions held in the spring and fall. Access by Car is Convenient, Only 15 Minutes from Yonezawa Chuo IC
To access the Denkoku no Mori (Uesugi Museum) from Yonezawa Chuo IC by car, it takes about 15 minutes to drive approximately 4km on the Tohoku Chuo Expressway. There is also a parking lot available, making it convenient for those coming by car. If using public transportation, take a bus from JR Yonezawa Station. After about an 8-minute bus ride, get off at the Uesugi Shrine bus stop. From there, it's only about a 2-minute walk to the museum.
