Naruto's Whirlpools

There are two types of sightseeing boats, the first being the "Large Sightseeing Boat, Wander Naruto". This large boat leisurely approaches the center of the whirlpools, allowing you to see the powerful whirlpools up close. Reservations are not required and it's a large boat, so it's safe for children. The second is the "Small Submerged Sightseeing Boat, Aqua Eddy". Here, you can see the whirlpools from underwater, from an observation room located 1 meter below the water's surface! Reservations are required, but you can enjoy a different view of the whirlpools from above. If you've come all this way, be sure to see the whirlpools up close.

The "Uzunomichi" path is a seaside promenade where you can take a walk while watching the whirlpools from a height of 45 meters above the sea. It's a valuable experience to walk the 450 meters to the observation room while feeling the sea breeze. In addition, there is a glass floor at your feet, allowing you to see the whirlpools from directly above. It's a little scary, but looking down at the whirlpools from the glass floor is a powerful and surprising sight.

The whirlpools of Naruto may not seem that big when seen in photos, but did you know that they can reach a diameter of about 20 meters? That's about as high as a 7-story building, so it's quite surprising. In addition, the speed can reach 13-15 km/h, and during the spring and autumn tides, it can reach up to 20 km/h. It's said to be the fastest current in Japan, so you can see just how fast the whirlpools are.

Located next to the Uzushio Road, the "Onaruto Bridge Memorial Museum Eddie" is an experiential museum where you can learn about whirlpools and bridges. The building itself is designed in a spiral motif based on whirlpools, and inside you can learn about the mechanism of whirlpool generation and the history of the Onaruto Bridge. It would be even more interesting to visit after seeing the whirlpools.

After viewing the whirlpools, head to "Michi-no-Eki Uzushio" on the Awaji Island side to enjoy some local cuisine! We highly recommend the "Awaji Island Onion Beef Burger." This hamburger, which uses plenty of onions from Awaji Island, is delicious because the onions themselves are sweet and fresh. There's also an onion sculpture, so be sure to take a commemorative photo and make some memories!
