This is an approximately 8km-long gorge created by the raging waters of the Yoshino River that flows across the Shikoku Mountains, after two hundred million years. The Oboke Gorge Sightseeing Boat takes you through the middle of the 4km-long Oboke Gorge, allowing you to leisurely view the breathtakingly beautiful valley up close for about 30 minutes. The experienced boatman provides detailed explanations about the Oboke Gorge, making it a great learning experience. Tickets can be purchased at the front desk on the first floor of "Restaurant Oboke Gorge Mannaka," so be sure to enjoy the view up close when you visit!

The Oboke and Koboke areas are known for having Japan's wildest rapids, making it the perfect spot for rafting. Rather than just admiring the scenery of the Oboke Gorge, why not hop on a rubber boat with friends and enjoy a memorable ride down the river amidst the splashing water? Half-day and full-day tours are available, so you can enjoy rafting in the morning and leisurely cruise the Oboke Gorge by boat in the afternoon. Instructors are available, so even beginners can feel at ease.

Oboke Gorge is a place where you can enjoy the changing seasons of nature, offering different scenery every time you visit. In spring, cherry blossoms and azaleas bloom, and koinobori swim through the valley. In summer, you can feel the negative ions surrounded by lush greenery, and in autumn, you can enjoy the colorful autumn leaves. In winter, you can appreciate the snow-covered valley, making it difficult to decide which season to visit.

Enjoy a Meal While Viewing the Valley on a Tourist Train

The "Shikoku Mannaka Millennium Story" tourist train runs through the Oboke Gorge. It operates one round trip per day between Tadotsu Station in Kagawa Prefecture and Oboke Station in Tokushima Prefecture, mainly on Saturdays and holidays. You can enjoy a meal using local ingredients in the carefully designed train. It was created with the concept of "adult mountain play," so why not take a leisurely trip and enjoy the scenery as an adult?

Take a Break and Relax at a Michi-no-Eki (Roadside Station)

Michi-no-Eki Oboke is a roadside station located in a place where you can overlook the Oboke Gorge, making it the perfect place to take a break after playing in the gorge. This area is famous for its yokai (Japanese folklore monsters), so you can buy souvenirs related to yokai or natural stones at the museum shop, as well as purchase local specialties such as local sake and soba. You can also easily grab a meal, so you don't have to worry about being hungry.

Convenient to Visit by Car

To reach the Oboke Gorge sightseeing boat by car, take the Ikawa Ikeda IC exit and drive for about 30 minutes on Route 32. It's convenient because you can also visit nearby attractions such as the "Iya no Kazurabashi" bridge. However, be careful as the surrounding roads are a bit narrow. You can also visit by train or bus, but be aware that there are few train services, so you may have to wait.

Oboke and Koboke are valleys created by the fierce currents of the Yoshino River over approximately 200 million years, stretching about 8 kilometers in length. The beautiful scenery resembles a sculpture of marble rising up, and is said to be a nationally valuable location where one can understand the formation of the Japanese archipelago. Despite its slightly unusual name, there are many theories about its origin, such as "Oboke means a cliff, and it's dangerous to walk with a wide stride, so it's called Oboke."
