The first course is the "Mamiki Promenade," which offers a picturesque, old-fashioned Japanese landscape that looks like it came straight out of a fairy tale. The second course is the "Nawate Shoyu Kura-dori Promenade," which boasts the largest collection of soy sauce breweries in Japan. Along the way, there are also souvenir shops, so why not take a detour and enjoy a leisurely stroll?

Adjacent to it, the "Natural Fermentation Storehouse" allows you to witness the traditional wooden barrel brewing of soy sauce that has been around for over 100 years. Knowing the history of soy sauce, which is an indispensable part of Japanese cuisine, may make you love soy sauce even more in the future.

Sho no Sato Delicious Local Cuisine in Shodoshima: "Hishio-don"
"Hishio-don," a local cuisine of Shodoshima, is characterized by its seasoning made with soy sauce and moromi. There are three rules to follow: "(1) Use soy sauce and moromi made in Shodoshima's Shou no Sato, (2) Use local ingredients such as seafood and vegetables from Shodoshima, and (3) Use olives or tsukudani for chopstick rests." You can enjoy this dish at restaurants and accommodations on the island, and it's a must-try gourmet dish when visiting Shodoshima. Required time

Secure about an hour to feel at ease
At Shou no Sato, there are two areas: the "Umaki Strolling Path" and the "Nawabari and Shouyu Kura Street Strolling Path". If you don't take a factory tour, you can go around in about an hour. There are four shouyu kura (soy sauce breweries) where you can take a factory tour, but reservations are required by phone or on the official website. In that case, we recommend securing about two hours to combine the tour with strolling. There are registered tangible cultural properties with a long history, so you may forget about time while taking a good look.

Fee

Admission Fees Vary Depending on the Shop
In Shoyu no Sato, there are several soy sauce factories that you can visit, and the admission fees vary depending on the shop. For example, at "Yamasan Shoyu," admission to the factory is free, but if you want a guided tour, it costs 1,000 yen or more. "Kinryo Shoyu" offers free admission to their factory. At the "Marukin Shoyu Memorial Hall," the fees are different for adults and children, with adults paying 400 yen and children paying 200 yen. Be sure to check the admission fees for each shop.

On the roads in the "Shou no Sato" area, only locals are allowed to drive, so you need to park in a nearby parking lot. There is a parking lot across from a shop called "Yamasan Shouyu Kimagure Koji Beya," so parking there is convenient for your stroll afterwards. This parking lot is a large open space with plenty of parking spaces, so you can park with peace of mind.
