This lighthouse stands on a 200-meter-high cliff in the Tsurugamisaki Nature Park, located at the easternmost point of Kyushu. It was completed and lit in 1981. This park is the first place in Kyushu to see the sunrise, so it is crowded with many people on New Year's Day to see the first sunrise.

The Tsunoshima Lighthouse Observation Deck is located next to the Tsunoshima Lighthouse, where you can enjoy a scenic view. 九州最東端の地です。当日は天気が良かったので景色がとても綺麗でした。駐車場から灯台までは近いです、そして灯台から最東端の地までも100メートルくらいで歩いていけます。駐車場は広いので停められないということはないと思います。

2024年3月、大分県の海岸線、特に佐伯市の「浦」巡りをしました。この辺り、リアス式海岸の景色は素晴らしいものがあります。ドライブをしていても飽きることがありません。丹賀砲台園地を見学し、その後に鶴御崎展望ブリッジ、そして九州最東端の鶴御崎灯台と旧海軍望楼跡にやって来ました。駐車場から少し歩きます。そして灯台の上へは急な螺旋階段を登ります。ここからの景色も素晴らしいです。ただし、ここまでの道中、コンビニや食事するところがありません。そこでお弁当を持ってきて、なんてのが良いかもしれませんね。

港町から一気に標高が上がり、道中から現地へと景色は絶景です。以前訪れた時から看板など色々と整備されて小綺麗になってました。灯台の先にある最東端の場所にいくには、3枚目の写真のように荒れた急な階段です。足腰の弱い人やヒールの靴の人などにはオススメ出来ないので気をつけてください。
