The Kitakawa Pit of Takashima Coal Mine is a coal mine site that was developed as the first vertical shaft using a steam engine in Japan during the Meiji era. Currently, visitors can tour the inside of the mine shaft. Due to the low ceilings, darkness, and narrowness, it's necessary to wear appropriate clothing and shoes. While visitors are free to walk around, it's recommended to follow the designated route for safety. There are also exhibits, guided tours, and pamphlets available, making it a recommended spot for those interested in the history of coal mining.
