History

Symbol of Niigata's Development!
The history of Bandai Bridge perfectly overlaps with the history of Niigata's development. During the Edo period, there was no bridge downstream of the Shinano River, Japan's largest river. The first Bandai Bridge was completed in 1886, when Niigata became a prosperous city in Japan with the opening of Niigata Port. In 1922, the width of the Shinano River was reduced to one-third during construction, and the Bandai Bridge was also rebuilt into its current form. The activities of the Niigata citizens who have lived alongside the great river are also engraved on this Bandai Bridge.
