This is a famous spot for sunflowers, with about 500,000 sunflowers blooming on an area of about 4 hectares. A huge sunflower maze has also been created, which is a popular attraction for children. Events are held from late July to mid-August, when the sunflowers are in full bloom, and food stalls are set up at the venue.

The Tsunan Sunflower Park boasts an impressive four hectares, equivalent to the size of Tokyo Dome. The sight of 500,000 sunflowers blooming without any gaps is truly breathtaking. The best time to see the sunflowers is in August. The four-hectare sunflower field is divided into three sections with staggered blooming periods, allowing visitors to enjoy the sunflower fields for an extended period of time. Childhood Dream: Sunflower Maze!

Many people have experienced walking through a vast sunflower field as a child and thinking, "It's like a natural maze...". On the grounds of this vast sunflower field, a sunflower maze has been set up, allowing children to explore the taller sunflower fields. The experience of exploring a natural maze is sure to be one of the best childhood memories. In one corner of the maze, there is also an observation deck where you can look down on the sunflower field from above, so be sure to look for it as the goal of the maze!

A Must-See Collaboration between Glittering Stars and Sunflowers!

During the period when the sunflower field is open, from 5pm to 9pm in the evening, the sunflower field is illuminated. (Please contact the Tsunan Town Tourism Association for more details on the period.) The sunflowers, shining in the darkness, show a different expression from their bright and lively appearance during the day. In addition, Tsunan Town has little light pollution, so the stars are very beautiful. Please enjoy the collaboration between the glittering stars and sunflowers.

Get a Photogenic Shot at the Sunflower Field!

Every year during sunflower blooming season, the Tsunan Town Tourism Association hosts the "Sunflower Plaza Photo Contest." Anyone can apply with a digital photo image of 2 million pixels or more, taken with a digital single-lens reflex camera, smartphone, tablet, or other device. With bright and cheerful sunflowers during the day, sparkling sunflowers in the evening, and sunflowers co-starring with children, you can take endlessly photogenic shots here. Why not try taking a shot to enter the photo contest? The winners will be judged by the Tsunan Town Tourism Association and will receive prizes.

At dusk, also known as the "magic hour," the sunflower field takes on a fantastical atmosphere unlike that of daytime or nighttime. As the sun sets behind the beautiful mountains of Tsunan, the colors of the sky change with each passing moment, enveloping the solitary sunflowers in a melancholic aura. The breathtaking view of the sky at dusk is unique to the environment of Tsunan, far removed from the hustle and bustle of the city. The magical sky and sunflowers, a sight only found in the countryside, will touch the hearts of all who see them.

Recommended Access by Car!

If you're going to Tsubame Sunflower Park by car, get off at the "Shiozawa-Ishiuchi IC" or "Echigo-Kawaguchi IC" on the Kanetsu Expressway and it's about a 60-minute drive from there. If you're coming from Tokyo, it's about a 2-hour drive from Nerima IC on the Kanetsu Expressway to Shiozawa-Ishiuchi IC, so you can get there in about 3 hours total. If you're using public transportation, head to "Tsunan Station" on the JR Iiyama Line. There are no bus routes from Tsunan Station, so please take a taxi. It takes about 15 minutes. Since there aren't many trains, we recommend checking the schedule in advance if you're going by train.

Clear Lake with a Legend of a Dragon

There is a clear pond nearby with a legend of a dragon! If you're coming to Tsunan, I think you'll want to see the surrounding tourist spots before and after visiting the Himawari Square. That's why I recommend "Ryugakubo Pond," located about 3km from the sunflower field. Approximately 43,000 tons of spring water gushes out every day, completely replacing the water in the pond. As a result, the water quality is of an unparalleled level in Japan, and you can see a very beautiful water surface along with the surrounding forest. On misty mornings, it is enveloped in a fantastic atmosphere. You can even take the spring water home for free!
