Asakusa Temple: A Collection of Japan's Charms from Kaminarimon to the Five-Story Pagoda

Asakusa Temple: A Collection of Japan's Charms from Kaminarimon to the Five-Story Pagoda
Asakusa's charm lies in being able to enjoy the red lantern of Kaminarimon, the vivid vermillion five-story pagoda, and Asakusa Temple, the oldest temple in Tokyo, all at once. Kaminarimon has become a symbol of Asakusa, and many tourists from both Japan and overseas visit to take commemorative photos. The gate is named "Furaijinmon" due to the wind god and thunder god enshrined on either side, and is commonly referred to as "Kaminarimon". The five-story pagoda stands at approximately 50 meters tall and is a brilliant vermillion color. At night, it is beautifully lit up, making it even more charming.

Enjoy Shopping and Eating Your Way Through Nakamise Street

Asakusa Temple Enjoy Shopping and Eating Your Way Through Nakamise Street
The charm of Sensoji Temple lies in Nakamise Street, which stretches 250 meters from Kaminarimon Gate to Sensoji Temple. Here, there are 89 souvenir shops and gourmet spots lined up. In addition to the Asakusa specialty of ningyoyaki and raijin senbei, there are many hidden gourmet specialties such as fried manju, jumbo melon bread, and crepes. There are so many different types of souvenirs that you may be mistaken for thinking that all souvenirs from Tokyo have gathered here, making it the perfect place to search for Tokyo souvenirs.

Asakusa Temple's Fortune-telling Paper, Which is Said to Have Many Bad Fortunes

Asakusa Temple's Fortune-telling Paper, Which is Said to Have Many Bad Fortunes
Asakusa's fortune-telling paper is said to have many bad fortunes. This is because it follows the traditional "Kannon Hyakusen" fortune-telling paper method that has been passed down since the Heian period. In this method, the proportion of bad fortunes is about 30%, so the rumor that Asakusa's fortune-telling paper has many bad fortunes is not entirely wrong. By the way, there are other temples where the proportion of bad fortunes is less than 10%, or where they don't have them at all. Please try to divine your fortune with Asakusa's fortune-telling paper!

Explore the Charming Streets of Asakusa on a Jinrikisha Ride

Asakusa Temple Explore the Charming Streets of Asakusa on a Jinrikisha Ride
When you arrive at Asakusa Station, you'll notice many jinrikisha (rickshaw) waiting for tourists. These two-seater rickshaws will guide you to little-known spots in Asakusa and explore the charming streets of the old town. The rickshaw drivers, who dash through the streets of Asakusa with their impressive leg power and talkative skills, will tell you various interesting stories along the way. Although the price is not cheap, around 5,000 yen per person for 30 minutes, it will surely be a wonderful memory that you won't regret.

Each shop has its own unique features. Many shops include dressing and hair setting in their plans, allowing you to change into a kimono at the shop and spend the day exploring Asakusa in traditional attire.
