Point 1

View the Sea of Clouds from the Castle in the Sky

Takeda Castle Ruins View the Sea of Clouds from the Castle in the Sky
Takeda Castle Ruins are located at the summit of a 353m mountain and are known as the Castle in the Sky. From the ruins, you can enjoy a panoramic view of the surrounding mountains and the city of Tanba-Sasayama, with breathtaking scenery stretching out before you. The highlight of Takeda Castle is the sea of clouds. The view of the fantastic clouds filling the gaps between the surrounding mountains is a rare and stunning sight that can hardly be seen in nature-rich Japan. Especially in autumn, the occurrence rate of the sea of clouds increases, so we recommend visiting in the fall if you're looking to see the sea of clouds.
Point 2

Feel the History of the Sengoku Period at the Takeda Castle Ruins

Feel the History of the Sengoku Period at the Takeda Castle Ruins
The Takeda Castle Ruins is a mountain castle believed to have been founded by the guardian daimyo of Tajima, Yamana Mochizuki. This valuable castle, which has also been designated as an important cultural property, has been selected as one of Japan's 100 famous castles. In addition, the ruins of the castle, including the keep, stone walls, and earthen ramparts, remain, making it an irresistible spot for history enthusiasts. Takeda Castle, where you can enjoy both history and culture while taking in the breathtaking scenery, is an essential tourist spot in the Tamba-Sasayama area.
Point 3

The area around Takeda Castle ruins is known as a cherry blossom spot, with over 30 cherry trees such as Somei Yoshino, Yamazakura, and Kasumizakura blooming in full glory in spring. In the spring evenings, the cherry blossoms are illuminated, allowing you to enjoy a fantastic view different from usual. In autumn, during the season of sea of clouds, the autumn leaves are also at their best. Spend a luxurious moment enjoying two magnificent views at once: the mountains around and the castle in the sky.

The Takeda Castle Ruins can be visited in combination with other tourist spots in Sasayama City. The city is home to the Tamba Sasayama Castle Town, which boasts a charming townscape that rivals that of the Takeda Castle Ruins. If you venture to the southwest, you'll also find Tamba-yaki, one of Japan's six ancient kilns, where you can purchase souvenirs or even try your hand at pottery-making.

Cold Weather Precautions for Viewing the Sea of Clouds
Takeda Castle is a tourist spot located at a relatively high altitude, so depending on the season, cold weather precautions may be necessary. In the fall, when the sea of clouds is at its best, the area around the Takeda Castle keep can often drop to temperatures in the single digits, so it's a good idea to bring warm clothes like jackets and gloves to protect against the cold. From spring to summer, the climate is relatively mild, so you can enjoy sightseeing comfortably without warm clothing as long as you have something to wear over your clothes.
