If you visit the Hakodate Morning Market, you absolutely must try the "seafood bowl" made with fresh seafood caught locally. The market has many shops offering seafood bowls, each with their own unique features and specialties. The menu also changes depending on the season and daily catch, so be sure to ask the staff for recommendations.

If you come to Hakodate Morning Market, one of the popular experiences you should try is "Squid Fishing Experience." You can use a fishing rod to catch fresh squid just caught from the sea that day from the live tank inside the shop, and experience catching it with your own hands. The caught squid is prepared on the spot by the staff, so you can eat it as sashimi. With its attraction-like elements, it's a spot that both adults and children can enjoy.
Point 3

Buying Souvenirs of Seafood

Hakodate Morning Market Buying Souvenirs of Seafood
Hakodate Morning Market is a great spot for choosing souvenirs. They have everything from fresh seafood like crab, sea urchin, and salmon roe, to dried goods like smoked squid and scallop adductor muscles. After purchasing fresh seafood, you don't need to worry about refrigeration during your trip because each shop offers delivery to your home. Some shops sell out during the day, so it's recommended to visit in the early morning to get the best items.
Point 4

Enjoy Food Tours!

While the Hakodate Morning Market is famous for its seafood bowls, you can also enjoy food tours within the market. Popular seafood such as sea urchin and scallops are grilled on the spot, and Hokkaido's popular foods such as melons and corn are cut into bite-sized pieces and sold. If you find a food you like, you can also purchase it on the spot, so why not make use of food tours as a souvenir option?
