Toyokuni Shrine is located outside of Ise Shrine and enshrines Toyokuni no Okami. Toyokuni no Okami is worshipped as the guardian deity of clothing, food, and shelter, and its history dates back to about 1500 years ago when Emperor Ojin received a revelation from Amaterasu Omikami and welcomed the deity to the Yamada Hara area. Toyokuni no Okami appears in the Nihon Shoki (Chronicles of Japan), and its worship has been deeply rooted since ancient times. As an outer shrine, Toyokuni Shrine undergoes a Shikinen Sengu ceremony every year, just like the inner shrine, and many people visit to worship.
