Takayama Jinya is a valuable historical site, as it is the only remaining major building of the 60 or so magistrate and county offices that existed throughout Japan during the end of the Edo period. Officials dispatched by the Tokugawa shogunate conducted their duties there to govern the Hida region. Inside, there are government offices, a large hall, and a screening room, allowing visitors to learn about the history of the Tenryo period. Free guides are also available, and there are plenty of niche attractions to enjoy. A must-see for fans of the Edo period!
