Mt. Tokusenjo is famous for being Japan's largest colony of mountain azaleas. From mid to late May, approximately 500,000 mountain azaleas bloom, painting the entire mountain in shades of red and orange. The hiking trail that starts from the Kesennuma side entrance is relatively easy and can be done with just sports shoes. However, there are steep stairs near the summit, so be sure to watch your step. From the first observation deck, you can enjoy a panoramic view of Kesennuma Bay and the Pacific Ocean, which is a breathtaking sight. Information on the blooming of the azaleas at Mt. Tokusenjo is updated every year from late April. Additionally, the "Tsutsuji Bus" operates, allowing for boarding and disembarking at Kesennuma Station, Pier 7, Umi no Ichi, and Mt. Tokusenjo.
