Chuson-ji, which was opened in 850 and underwent large-scale construction by Fujiwara no Kiyohira in the early 12th century, is designated as a national treasure. It houses the "Konjikido" (Golden Hall) and the "Hosshin no Sato" (Treasure Hall), which contains about 3,000 cultural assets. It is a very popular spot where you can experience the prosperity of Hiraizumi in Oshu.

A Historic Temple Established in the Late Heian Period
Chuson-ji Temple in Hiraizumi, Iwate Prefecture, is a historic temple founded by the renowned Buddhist monk Ennin, who lived on Mount Hiei in 850 AD. Within the temple grounds, you can find the national treasure "Konjikido Hall," which was built by the first lord of the Oshu Fujiwara clan, and the "Sankozo" collection of over 3,000 cultural assets. You can encounter valuable architecture and cultural assets that convey the charm of the large temple built by the Oshu Fujiwara clan to modern times.

Nearest Station is JR Hiraizumi Station
Hiraizumi in Iwate Prefecture, where Chuson-ji Temple is located, is closest to JR Hiraizumi Station. From JR Tohoku Main Line "Hiraizumi" Station, take the Tohoku Main Line from JR Tohoku Shinkansen "Ichinoseki" Station and you will arrive in about 9 minutes. From Hiraizumi Station to Chuson-ji Temple, it takes about 5 minutes by Hiraizumi town loop bus "Runrun" or regular bus, and about 20 minutes on foot. For those planning to visit surrounding spots along with Chuson-ji Temple during their sightseeing, we recommend using the bus.
