Point 5

Facilities Related to Sculptor and Poet Kotaro Takamura!

Osawa Onsen Facilities Related to Sculptor and Poet Kotaro Takamura!
The Kotaro Takamura Memorial Museum and Takamura Yosano Memorial Museum, located near Osawa Onsen, are facilities related to Kotaro Takamura, known as a sculptor and poet. The Kotaro Takamura Memorial Museum displays representative works of Takamura as a sculptor and materials left behind during his seven years in Hanamaki. Sculptures such as "Hand" and "Maiden Statue - Medium Prototype" are exhibited in Exhibition Room 1, while materials such as Takamura's calligraphy and original manuscripts, and Chieko's paper paintings are exhibited in Exhibition Room 2. Visitors can feel Takamura's worldview. Takamura Yosano Memorial Museum is a cabin where Takamura spent his last seven and a half years. In 1945, Takamura evacuated to the Miyazawa family in Hanamaki City through his connection with Kenji Miyazawa, but the Miyazawa family was destroyed by an air raid, so he moved to the Ota-mura Yamaguchi district with the cooperation of local people. He lived a contemplative life in the mountain villa and devoted himself to poetry and calligraphy until he left in 1952. Some of his calligraphy is exhibited in the Kotaro Takamura Memorial Museum. The building where he lived for seven years in the mountains was a small cabin, but after Takamura's death, a protective cover was built by local villagers, and a second protective cover made of steel was added, resulting in its current form. These facilities allow visitors to experience Takamura's life and art and enjoy a journey following in his footsteps!
