A Must-See: The Faithfully Restored Three-Story Tower

Komine Castle A Must-See: The Faithfully Restored Three-Story Tower
The symbol of Komine Castle, the three-story tower with three levels, is a must-see. Due to the collapse of the stone walls during the Great East Japan Earthquake, it was closed for a while, but now it has been restored and it's possible to visit the inside. When restoring the three-story tower, cedar trees from the site where the Boshin War was fought were used, so you can still see bullet holes and feel the intensity of the war.
Point 2

Kofune Castle is also famous as a cherry blossom spot

Komine Castle Kofune Castle is also famous as a cherry blossom spot
Kofune Castle is a famous cherry blossom spot in Shirakawa City. From mid-April, nearly 200 Somei Yoshino cherry trees bloom, providing a beautiful backdrop to the castle. In addition, Kofune Castle is one of the few places in the prefecture where you can see the "Goi-oh" cherry blossom. It starts blooming around the time when the pink cherry blossoms are finished and changes from yellow-green to yellow. If you visit again when the cherry blossoms begin to fall, you may be able to see the rare yellow-green cherry blossoms.
Point 3

Beautifully Stacked Stone Walls are a Must-See

Komine Castle Beautifully Stacked Stone Walls are a Must-See
At Komine Castle, the stone walls that surround the main castle are a must-see. They are stacked very beautifully and have been selected as one of "Japan's Top 100 Castles" and designated as a national historic site due to their beauty. Although they appear to be lined up in a straight line, the highlight is that they are stacked in a "semi-circular arc" in some places. The stone walls of Komine Castle may look the same, but in fact, their designs are slightly different. It's interesting to compare and see these subtle differences.
Point 4

History

Komine Castle Kofu Castle, a Famous Castle of the Oshu Kanmon
Kofu Castle, a Famous Castle of the Oshu Kanmon
Shirakawa Kofu Castle is a hirayama-style castle that was built on Kofunegaoke in 1340 and completed by Nawa Nagashige during the Edo period. Many famous daimyos, including Matsumura Sadanobu, entered the castle, but it fell during the Boshin War. In 1994, it was faithfully restored based on a design drawing from the Edo period. The restored castle is mostly made of reinforced concrete, but the wooden tower is a valuable reconstruction. It is now a nationally designated historic site and is beloved by many residents of Shirakawa City as a symbol.
