In the precincts of the shrine flows the beautiful "Naso Falls".

The shrine grounds are home to the "Naso Falls," which have been selected as one of Japan's Top 100 Waterfalls. Point 1

A Pathway Lined with Cedar Trees Aged 350-800 Years

Kanamori Shrine is a historic shrine with a pathway lined with cedar trees aged 350-800 years. The cedar trees along the pathway leading to Kanamori Shrine have been designated as natural monuments of Akita Prefecture due to their age. The area surrounding Kanamori Shrine is also home to beautiful nature, with many tourist spots such as Hasuike Park and Lake Tazawa. The cedar trees lining the pathway to Kanamori Shrine exude a mystical atmosphere due to their age, and serve as a source of healing for visitors.

A Niou Statue Carved from a Single Cedar Tree

Kimpou Shrine is famous for its Niou gate and Niou statue, which were built in the fourth year of the Ansei era (1857). The Niou statue, carved from a single cedar tree, is enshrined in the Niou gate. This Niou statue is a pair, with the right hand holding a tin stick to ward off evil spirits and the left hand holding a treasure ball to bestow happiness upon people. The Niou gate and Niou statue allow you to feel Japan's history and culture, and are also popular tourist spots!

Within the grounds of Kanamori Shrine, there is a waterfall called Naso Shirataki. This waterfall is 26 meters high and 11 meters wide, with a dynamic flow of water and a significant drop. The waterfall is a beautiful sight as water flows down the rock face made of the lava from Mount Chokai, and it was designated as a national scenic spot in 1932. The shrine itself has beautiful historical architecture, and the scenery created by the waterfall and the shrine is considered to be mystical and extremely beautiful.

The Chokurai dance, held every year on the last Saturday of May at Konmine Shrine, is a dance dedicated to the prayer for the long-term health and prosperity of the local people. Before the dance, a ritual is performed to purify the stage with the twelve-stage dance (lion dance). The Chokurai dance in Kotaki is a rare dance in Akita Prefecture that prays for longevity, and the costumes and performances are gorgeous and impressive. It is also known for the passion of the local people who dedicate themselves to the dance. When visiting Senboku City, Akita Prefecture, it is recommended to visit Konmine Shrine and watch the Chokurai dance. You can feel the passion of the local people and the atmosphere of the historic shrine, making it a memorable moment of your trip.

A Shrine with Beautiful Nature and Historic Architecture as its Features!

Kanamori Shrine is said to have been founded in the second year of Yoro under Emperor Genmei's reign (718) and features a haiden (worship hall) built in the second year of the Horeki era (1752), a honden (main hall) built in the 10th year of the Taisho era (1921), and a shrine gate, Niomon, as well as Nio statues and architectural koma-inu (guardian dog statues) built in the fourth year of the Ansei era (1857). The approach to Kanamori Shrine is lined with cedar trees designated as natural monuments by the prefecture, some of which are over 350 to 800 years old. Inside the shrine grounds, there is a waterfall called Naso no Taki and a Nio statue carved from a single giant cedar tree at the Niomon gate. Kanamori Shrine enshrines Emperor Ankan, Uke Mochi, Amaterasu Omikami, and Yotanbe no Mikoto, and an annual festival is held on August 18th, attracting many visitors from both inside and outside the prefecture who can enjoy the beautiful nature and historic architecture.

参拝路からズラッと御神木級の太さの杉並木が…圧巻あまり期待せず行ったけど感動した仁王像も愛嬌があって良き〜ただ車道が100m位狭い道が続くのですれ違いに注意、駐車場は広い

参道の杉並木から凛とした空気感に包まれ、タイムスリップしたような気分になりました。杉並木をしばらく走ると右手南側に駐車場があります。本堂までは長い階段を登りますが、樹齢350年以上の見事な杉の大木に囲まれた景色に心を打たれ全く苦になりませんでした。秋田観光の際は是非訪れるべきスポットだと思います。

蓮池観音とも呼ばれています。樹齢400年にもなる杉並木が素晴らしいです。入口の仁王門は安政４年建立で仁王像は一本の木から彫って作られたそうです。時間が止まっているような感覚を受けます。
