Toritaga Kaikan is located in Odate City, Akita Prefecture and was developed by a man named Ryuzo Toritaga. This residence belonged to the Toritaga family, who gained fame in the fields of medicine, electricity, and acrobatics, and you can enjoy a pure Japanese garden and house. The garden incorporates a Kyoto-style design and involved over 1,000 carpenters and gardeners from Kyoto. Guided tours are available by reservation inside the building, and rooms can also be rented out. Additionally, Toritaga Kaikan is open to the public for free and is designated as a tangible cultural property of Akita Prefecture for its architecture and a scenic spot (memorial) for its garden. Toritaga Kaikan is a place where history and culture come alive, making it an attractive tourist spot for visitors, so we recommend visiting it in combination with Tono Fudoki no Oka!

The Odate Folk Museum opened in 1996 and is located in Odate City, Akita Prefecture. The museum is housed in the former Akita Prefectural Higashi High School, which has since been closed down, and showcases the history and culture of Odate City. The exhibition room displays works by famous painters from Odate, as well as arts and crafts, and bentwood products, and there is also a children's science room. In addition, a special exhibition called the "Doll Festival Exhibition" is held every year from February to March and is very popular. The Odate Folk Museum is open from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. every day except Monday (if Monday is a national holiday, the museum is closed the following day).
