A path where you can enjoy a bamboo forest walk that covers the sky.

Representing Arashiyama, a path of bamboo groves continues for about 400 meters, covering the sky. You can enjoy the changing scenery with the seasons, such as cherry blossoms in spring, autumn leaves in fall, and winter illuminations. For those who want to enjoy the scenery slowly, we recommend taking a rickshaw ride.

Famous Light-Up Event

Arashiyama's light-up event "Kyoto Arashiyama Hanatouro," held every December, illuminates the bamboo grove path at night, creating a fantastic and otherworldly atmosphere. During the same period, other famous spots in Arashiyama, such as Togetsukyo Bridge and Katsura River, are also lit up, allowing you to enjoy the beautiful and majestic natural scenery at night. Nomiya Shrine is a spot you'll definitely want to visit when you come across it on the path through the bamboo grove. It is a historic shrine that appears in "The Tale of Genji" in the chapter "The Wise Tree," and was a place where the Saigu, a woman who served the gods in place of the emperor, purified herself. There are also blessings for matchmaking and safe childbirth, and it is said that if you pray while touching the turtle-shaped stone on the shrine grounds, your wish will come true, making it a lucky spot.

Representative Spots in Arashiyama that can be Visited in 20-30 Minutes

This is a path where tall bamboo groves spread out as far as the eye can see. It's only a 10-minute walk, but it's recommended to set aside about 20-30 minutes to slowly savor the unique atmosphere and nature of the bamboo grove that is typical of Japan. Nearby, there are famous spots in Arashiyama such as Togetsukyo Bridge, Tenryuji Temple, and Nonomiya Shrine. Since the required time is relatively short, it's recommended to visit this spot along with other tourist spots.

Bamboo Grove 5 Minutes on Foot from Arashiyama Station

Just a 5-minute walk from Arashiyama Station on the Keifuku Electric Railroad, an 8-minute walk from Saga-Arashiyama Station on the JR Sagano Line, and a 15-minute walk from Hankyu Arashiyama Station, this bamboo grove is within walking distance of Arashiyama's gateway. It's also close to other tourist spots in Arashiyama, making it a must-visit spot when sightseeing in the area. Nearby attractions include Tenryu-ji Temple, Togetsukyo Bridge, and Nonomiya Shrine, so it's recommended to visit them as a set. As it's crowded with many people on holidays due to its accessibility, it's recommended to visit early in the morning if you want to take photos without people or want to enjoy sightseeing at a leisurely pace.

Not too bad ! Sometimes when you visit Japan, it is a lot of city. It's nice to see more of the nature side. There is a bamboo path (depending on where you are coming from) before the bamboo forest! There are lots of paths to walk around. Please keep in mind on depending on where you walk you might run into residential areas often so please be respectful. The day we visited there were people filming a commercial or something for athletic wear which was kind of weird but they took up A LOT of the space and just waited for us to pass by which made us rush past them 🫠. Early birds get the worm! As you've probably heard you'd most likely have less crowds the earlier you go. Just depends. Plus it'll be SO MUCH COOLER (temperature wise). Thankfully the bamboo coverage provides lots of shade which makes a nice canopy of coolness. Bathrooms are rare, so be sure to go at the train station before you walk to the forest! Otherwise, you might have to squat it out at a park near by at their public restroom 😞. We stumbled upon the lotus paddy and it was beautiful seeing them in view. Saw some ducks and possibly a serow. People forget how mountainous Japan is as a country, and it was just so beautiful being surrounded by it! It's a short area of bamboo but it's very very beautiful. 悪くないですね！日本を訪れると、都会のことが多いです。自然をもっと見られるのはいいですね。竹林の前に竹の小道があります（どこから来るかによります）。散歩できる小道がたくさんあります。歩く場所によっては住宅街によく出くわすので、マナーを守ってください。私たちが訪れた日は、スポーツウェアのCMか何かを撮影している人がいて、ちょっと変な感じでしたが、彼らはかなりのスペースを占領して、私たちが通り過ぎるのを待っていたので、急いで通り過ぎました🫠。早起きは三文の徳！聞いたことがあると思いますが、早く行けば混雑は少ないでしょう。状況によります。それに、気温がずっと涼しくなります。ありがたいことに、竹で覆われているので日陰がたくさんあり、涼しい天蓋になっています。トイレはめったにないので、森まで歩く前に駅で必ず行ってください！そうでなければ、近くの公園の公衆トイレでしゃがんで用を足さなければならないかもしれません😞。偶然蓮田に出会い、蓮を眺めるのは美しかったです。アヒルやカモシカも見かけました。日本がいかに山の多い国であるかを忘れがちですが、山に囲まれているのは本当に美しかったです！竹林は短いですが、とてもとても美しいです。 Additionally, lots of food on the way to the forest. Wagyu, soft serve ice cream, a snoopy shop. Etc ! And the kimono area is right by the station. さらに、森へ向かう途中には食べ物がたくさんあります。和牛、ソフトクリーム、スヌーピーショップなど！着物エリアは駅のすぐそばにあります。

嵐山観光では定番のスポットです。竹林が生えている道が結構続いています。途中に神社【お寺？】らしきものがあります。歩行者用の道の他に人力車を利用している人用の道もありました。

野宮神社から天龍寺北門を通り大河内山荘へ抜ける約400メートルの道。手入れされた竹林が道の両脇に続くこの道は、京都嵐山を代表する観光名所の一つです。平安時代には貴族の別荘地だったと言われています。実際訪れて、観光客の多さに驚きました。また観光客の半分以上が、外国人観光客だった事にも驚きました。
