Access to "Zao Fox Village" is available by bus from JR Shiroishi-Zao Station or JR Shiroishi Station. It operates daily except on regular holidays. It takes about 20 minutes by car from the Tohoku Expressway "Shiroishi IC". If you use a taxi, it operates from Shiroishi-Zao Station or Shiroishi Station. If you ask the staff, they will arrange for your return trip as well.

Inside the park, there is a shop selling fox-themed goods, as well as photos of foxes in all four seasons. There is also a snack corner available. However, it's recommended to bring your own food and drinks, as it's not ideal to rely solely on the snack corner for a full meal.

There are many tourist spots in the surrounding area of Zao Fox Village. These include "Yajiro Kokeshi Village" in Shiroishi City and the ski resort "Miyagi Zao Shiroishi." In addition, the Zao Mountain Range in winter is one of the few spots in the country where you can see "juhyo," or trees covered in ice and snow. The "Miyagi Zao Juhyo Tour" is also popular, offering tours on snowmobiles through the juhyo forest.

The Only Zoo in Japan Mainly Focused on Foxes!

Zao Fox Village is a facility located in the mountains about 30 minutes west by car from the center of Shiroishi City, Miyagi Prefecture. It's the only zoo in Japan that breeds many types of foxes. Since the foxes are basically allowed to roam freely in the park, you can see their expressions up close. There are also opportunities for hands-on experiences with the animals, allowing you to enjoy the warmth and feel of the animals. In addition to foxes, there are also rabbits and ponies, which are very cute to see. Furthermore, the foxes in the park are well-managed unlike wild foxes, so there is no need to worry about echinococcus, a typical parasite, and you can interact with them with peace of mind.

Access

Access from Shiroishi IC on the Tohoku Expressway is about 20 minutes by car.

Buses run from JR Shiroishizao-O station and JR Shiroishi station to Kitsune Village on days other than regular holidays. If you use a taxi, it will also take you from the station to Kitsune Village. If you request it from the staff at Kitsune Village, they will arrange for a taxi to take you back. Parking is also available, so there is no need to worry about coming by car, but there is snow in the mountains in winter. If you are not used to driving on snowy roads or lack confidence, it is recommended to use public transportation.
