Amakusa Visitor Center

The Amakusa Visitor Center is a free exhibition facility that introduces the nature and history of Amakusa-Matsushima. Admission is free, and they display the Hakusen Shiozumaneiki and coral, which are designated as endangered species in Kumamoto Prefecture. They also have exhibits on Amakusa Shiro and Christian culture. During the summer vacation period, there may be "tidal flat observation meetings" to observe organisms that inhabit the tidal flats, such as the Hakusen Shiozumaneiki. The Amakusa Visitor Center has a souvenir corner that offers a variety of local specialties. These include Amakusa salt, Amakusa soba, and Amakusa kaki-peanuts, which are all famous products of Amakusa Matsushima. In addition, fresh vegetables and fruits harvested locally are also sold, making it easy to purchase necessary food items during your travels.

During the summer vacation period, the Amakusa Visitor Center will hold a "Tidal Flat Observation Tour." Led by professional staff, you can observe the creatures that inhabit the tidal flats, such as fiddler crabs, crabs, and shellfish. You can also learn about the ecosystem of the tidal flats that you normally wouldn't see. Participate with your family and interact with nature!

At Amakusa Visitor Center, there is a rest area. It's a good idea to take a break here after viewing the exhibits and then head to the next tourist spot. In addition, there are convenience stores and restaurants in the surrounding area, so it's also possible to bring food and drinks and enjoy a picnic-like atmosphere.

The Amakusa Visitor Center can be used as a base for sightseeing in Amakusa-Matsushima.
