Wakayama Castle, also known as "Tiger Crouching Castle" or "Bamboo Fence Castle," was built by Hidenaga, the younger brother of Toyotomi Hideyoshi. Later, it was expanded by the Kishu clan, which produced the eighth shogun of the Tokugawa shogunate, Tokugawa Yoshimune, and the 14th shogun, Tokugawa Iemochi. History buffs can spend a wonderful time strolling through the castle grounds, admiring the tower perched on Mt. Kofuku and the many remains within the castle.
