Onigajo, located on a coast facing the Kumano Sea, features numerous small and large sea caves that were formed by earthquakes and now line up like stairs, creating a unique landscape. The beautiful scenery, with its contrast between the sea and mountains, captivates visitors. Onigajo is also part of the Kumano Kodo, and a journey to visit the traces of 14 million years ago. The starting point for hiking is at Kannonji Temple on the eastern foothills. There are many tourist spots in the surrounding area, such as Kameyama Park and the Kumano Kodo. In the summer, the Kumano Fireworks Festival is held, where you can enjoy about 200 fireworks echoing in the caves with sound and light. Mie Kotsu buses are also available. There are many seafood restaurants in the area where you can taste fresh local seafood.
