The terraced rice fields of Oura in Karatsu City have been in existence since the Kamakura period, and you can enjoy the beautiful scenery where history and nature are beautifully integrated from the observation deck. It's a scenic spot where you can overlook the Imari Bay and "Iroha Island," and the changing expressions with each season are also charming. Especially during the rice planting and harvesting season, a lively scene spreads out. In the Edo period, this was also a place where rice was cultivated for presentation to the lord of the Karatsu domain, and even now, Koshihikari rice is grown here. It is said that Kobo Daishi, who visited this place, was so impressed by its beauty that he threw away his brush, and its magnificence has not faded to this day.
