Art museum and theater integrated complex
This is a rare complex facility that integrates the "Shimane Prefectural Iwami Art Museum" and the "Shimane Prefectural Iwami Art Theater". Various exhibits, as well as theater and music concerts, are held here. In the central part of the facility, events are also held, and you can enjoy a lively atmosphere that is different from the usual quiet art museum.

The Shimane Prefectural Iwami Art Museum, located in the Shimane Art and Culture Center Grantow, is an art museum exhibiting artworks from inside and outside Shimane Prefecture. The museum's collection is gathered from inside and outside Shimane Prefecture and includes various genres of works such as pottery, lacquerware, textiles, and paintings, with a focus on Japanese culture and art, mainly art. Admission fees are 600 yen for adults, 300 yen for students, and free for those aged 65 and over. Please note that photography of the works inside the museum may be prohibited in some exhibition rooms, so it is recommended to check before entering.

The Shimane Arts Center "Grand Toit" means "big roof" in French, and its large, expansive roof is a distinctive feature. The Iwami tiles used on the roof and walls are traditional roof tiles made from clay produced in Shimane Prefecture. The roof has a large, curved shape, and the Iwami tiles are arranged in continuous rows, which is a characteristic feature. In addition, local Iwami tiles are used on the walls of Grand Toit, creating harmony between the building and the surrounding landscape. Manyo Park is a prefectural park mainly consisting of a botanical garden with about 160 types of plants mentioned in the Manyoshu, a collection of ancient Japanese poetry. Cherry blossoms and rapeseed flowers can be seen in spring, while autumn brings colorful foliage. From the Hitomaro Observation Plaza in the park, you can see the "Kamo Island Ruins," the site of Hitomaro's death. In addition, more than 160 song boards and 35 song monuments from the Manyoshu are installed in the park, allowing you to experience the Manyoshu firsthand. The park also has the Shimane Prefectural Manyo Park Auto Campground, where you can enjoy day camping or overnight stays. With the presence of the "Yasuragi no Ie" (House of Serenity) and sports facilities, people of all ages can enjoy the park. Manyo Park not only allows you to enjoy the plants and scenery mentioned in the Manyoshu, but also has a well-equipped campground and sports facilities. A Complex Facility that Combines Theater and Art Museum
The Shimane Arts and Culture Center Grand Toit is a complex facility that combines the Shimane Prefectural Iwami Art Museum and the Shimane Prefectural Iwami Art Theater. The name "Grand Toit" means "big roof" in French and is also the nickname of the facility. The exterior, designed by Hiroshi Naito, is covered in approximately 280,000 Ishizumi tiles, creating a unique look that highlights the new expression of local tiles and ease of maintenance. The facility includes the Iwami Art Theater, which hosts performances such as theater and live music, and the Iwami Art Museum, which is a prestigious art museum in Shimane Prefecture, providing diverse and high-quality opportunities to appreciate art and culture. The facility also has a ticket counter, making it possible to purchase tickets for performances. Local theater groups and puppet shows are also held, making it a fascinating hub of art and culture!
