Shimoguri Village is a small settlement carved into the mountainside at an altitude of 800 to 1100 meters. The unique landscape, known as the "Japanese Tyrol," features houses and fields nestled on a steep slope with a maximum inclination of 38 degrees, connected by winding switchback roads. It has been selected as one of "Japan's Top 100 Villages" for its stunning scenery. About 60 households, or approximately 150 people, live in harmony with nature, cultivating vegetables and grains such as soba, corn, and sweet potatoes. In particular, the sweet potatoes are a specialty of Shimoguri Village, with a rich and delicious flavor despite their small size.
