Kitakami City Park Tenshochi is one of Japan's famous cherry blossom viewing spots. The Mitsuhito Tonezawa Memorial Museum at Kitakami Shiritsu Koen Tenjoshitei displays the works of Mitsuhito Tonezawa, also known as the "Sun Painter". The museum was opened in 1995 thanks to a donation from Mr. Tonezawa's wife and is open to the public. Mr. Tonezawa was a painter from Ibaraki Prefecture, known for his passionate works with Mexico as a theme. He was impressed by the beauty of the folk performing arts in Kitakami City, such as the Onikenbai and Shishiodori, and it became one of his life's work. In the atelier built in a beautiful scenic spot, Mr. Tonezawa presented paintings full of dynamism of Shishiodori and Onikenbai for about 20 years from 1975 to 1994. His works express his emotions with his whole body and are created with his soul, overflowing with his passion. At the Mitsuhito Tonezawa Memorial Museum at Kitakami Shiritsu Koen Tenjoshitei, you can appreciate the works of the artist and experience his artistic world. Convenient Access by Taxi or Rental Car from the Station
If you're using public transportation to access Kitakami Shiritsu Koen Tenjokoku, it's about a 10-minute drive from JR Kitakami Station. It's convenient to use a taxi or rental car from the station. If you're using your own car, take National Route 107 via the Kitakami-Etsuzo Interchange on the Tohoku Expressway, and you'll arrive at Tenjokoku in about 15 minutes, covering a distance of about 5km. Following the road signs will make it easy to access the park.
