Meishoin Temple in Chofu City is said to have been founded by a retainer to offer prayers for the repose of the soul of Ashikaga Yoshitaka, the fourth son of Ashikaga Masauji, who had moved to the area. The temple features a main hall, a Kannon hall, and an Enma hall, as well as a well-maintained garden with Jizo statues and a pilgrimage tower for the six Jizo. Visitors are enchanted by the monochrome beauty of the scenery, including stone walls, stone steps, and large ginkgo trees. The temple is also known for enshrining Benzaiten, one of the "Chofu Seven Lucky Gods."
