To-ji Temple is the head temple of the Rinzai sect To-ji school and a historic temple welcomed by a national treasure designated Sanmon gate. The temple grounds house numerous cultural treasures, such as Kamakura and Muromachi period paintings and valuable calligraphy brought back from Song Dynasty by the founding monk, Saint Ikkō.
