Uwatsu-hiko Shrine, located in Uwajima City, is a historic shrine known as a pioneer god. It enshrines the legendary god who ruled over the Nanyo region, Uwatsu-hiko no Mikoto, and has a history of over 1,200 years. It is also known by the nickname "Ikkusama" and is believed to bring blessings such as safety in the home and protection from misfortune. This sacred site is also the birthplace of the Shishi-odori (deer dance) and Ushioni (ox demon) festivals. Created by the first lord of Uwajima, Date Hidemune, this beautiful and historically valuable shrine is loved by many tourists.
