Imabari Castle See One of Japan's Top Sea Castles, Where the Sea Water is Drawn In
Imabari Castle is a rare sea castle built during the Edo period and is said to be one of Japan's three great water castles. At the time the castle was built, ships could enter the moat directly from the sea, making it a vital point for maritime transportation. The moat surrounding the castle is filled with seawater, where you can see sea bream, sea bass, and even sharks! It's also interesting to note that the water level changes with the ebb and flow of the tide.
Point 2

Learn History at the Five-Story Castle Tower

Imabari Castle Learn History at the Five-Story Castle Tower
Imabari Castle has a five-story castle tower with a ticket booth on the first floor and exhibits of weapons, books, furnishings, and more on the second to fifth floors. The sixth floor is an observation deck. The castle tower was built by Tadakatsu Todo, a warlord who played an active role in the Battle of Sekigahara. He was granted land in Imabari by Tokugawa Ieyasu, and as a result, the current Imabari Castle was built as his residence. Why not learn about history at this castle, which was built by Todo, known as a master of castle construction?
Point 3

Experience a Different Side of Imabari Castle with Illumination
Imabari Castle is illuminated with about 100 lights every day from 30 minutes after sunset until 22:00, allowing you to see a different side of the castle from what you see during the day. The lighting design was supervised by lighting designer Haruki Kaido, and is designed to make the castle stand out more three-dimensionally with warm colors. You'll definitely want to enjoy a different side of Imabari Castle from when you visited during the day.
