Kurushima Kaikyo Bridge, the world's first triple suspension bridge spanning the Kurushima Strait.
The Kurushima-Kaikyo Bridge is the largest bridge on the Shimanami Kaido. The landscape created by the world's first three consecutive suspension bridges is breathtaking. Small motorcycle lanes and bicycle and pedestrian lanes are provided on both sides, and you can enjoy views of the Seto Inland Sea from the bridge. The Kurushima-Kaikyo Bridge, which connects Oshima Island, Takeshima Island, and Uma Island to Imabari, is a graceful structure that takes advantage of the natural scenery. It took about nine years to complete and opened on May 1, 1999. From the bridge, you can enjoy views of the Kurushima Strait, a famous scenic spot in the Seto Inland Sea National Park. The Kurushima Strait is known as one of the three swift currents in the Seto Inland Sea, and you can also see whirlpools from the bridge. The recommended way to experience the power of the Kurushima-Kaikyo Bridge is to view it from below. You can walk on the pedestrian walkway and descend to Uma Island to see the bridge up close. This is also a bus stop, and there are days when it is illuminated at night, offering a beautiful night view.
