Honohoshi Coast

Honohoshi Beach is a beautiful coastline facing the Pacific Ocean. The stones and gravel that spread along the coast have been washed by the intense waves and have become smooth, rounded pebbles. Especially when the waves recede, the stones rub against each other, creating a sound like a drum. This scenery is worth seeing. Along the coast, there are towering rock formations and caves, creating a powerful landscape. The shape of the rocks and their interaction with the sea is magnificent and impressive. In addition, fishing for boat or rockfish is also possible in the surrounding seaside. Honohoshi Beach is also known as a fishing spot where bonito, octopus, spiny lobster, and sea bream can be caught, making it an attractive spot for fishing enthusiasts. To access Honohoshi Beach by public transportation, take a bus bound for Setouchi Kai no Eki from Amami Oshima Airport. The ride takes about 2 hours. Get off at Setouchi Kai no Eki and transfer to a bus bound for Seaside Bus Yadori Beach. The ride takes about 30 minutes. Get off at the bus stop for Honohoshi Beach and it's just a short walk from there. If you're driving, take Prefectural Route 82 and National Route 58 from Kagoshima Prefecture's Amami Oshima Airport to Honohoshi Beach. The drive takes about 2 hours, covering approximately 73km.
