This is a traditional townscape that preserves the Edo-era inn. During the Meiji era, it transformed into a town of sericulture, and now it is one of the leading tourist attractions in the region. Take a leisurely stroll and carefully select the local specialties. You can also see the "udatsu roof," which is famous for the saying "udatsu ga agaranai" (meaning "not making much progress").

Kaino-juku is a tourist spot where the streetscape remains from its establishment as a post town on the Hokkaido Road in the second year of the Kan'ei era. The townscape along the road, which was also selected as one of "Japan's Top 100 Roads," still has buildings from that time period, such as traditional inn-style architecture and thatched roofs, allowing visitors to feel the historical atmosphere. A water channel flows through the center of the road, and visitors can take a leisurely stroll through the town, feeling the atmosphere and imagining what life was like during that time period.

During the festival, there are performances of yamakasa (floats) and taiko drums, creating a lively atmosphere. Conveniently Located About 30 Minutes from Ueda Station
Kaino-juku is a tourist spot located in Moto-Kaino, Higashiomi City, Nagano Prefecture. It's about a 30-minute train ride from Ueda Station on the JR Hokuriku Shinkansen, making it a good place to stop by when visiting Ueda or taking a hot spring cure in nearby Bessho Onsen. Additionally, Kaino-juku stretches about 650 meters from west to east, so it's recommended to wear comfortable shoes and clothing when walking around.
