Best to Wear Long Sleeves and Pants!
The Tano-hara Wetland is famous for the cotton grass that blooms from June to July. Cotton grass inhabits wetlands at high elevations and is characterized by its white, fluffy cotton-like appearance. The Tano-hara Wetland's cotton grass colony is one of the largest in Japan, attracting many visitors during the blooming season. While in Tokyo, temperatures can exceed 25 degrees Celsius during the June to July period, it's considerably cooler at the Tano-hara Wetland, which is located in the Shiga Highlands. Additionally, since there are many insects in the wetland, it's recommended to wear long sleeves and pants.

Access

About 3 and a half hours by car from Tokyo
If you're going to Tano-hara Wetland, it's recommended to go by car. While nearby Jigokudani Monkey Park and Nozawa Onsen can be reached by train and bus, there are very few buses to Tano-hara Wetland, so going by car will give you more time flexibility. If you're coming from Tokyo, take the Kanetsu Expressway and get off at the Shinshu Nakano IC on the Joshin-Etsu Expressway. It takes about 3 to 4 hours from Tokyo.
