The Nakasendo was one of the five highways during the Edo period in Japan, connecting Kyoto to Edo (present-day Tokyo). It was an important route for transportation and communication, and many post towns were established along the way. Today, parts of the Nakasendo are preserved as a historic trail for tourists to walk and experience the atmosphere of old Japan.
