Kumano Imperial Shrine in Karuizawa is one of the three major Kumano shrines in Japan, located on the prefectural border. It boasts a magnificent sacred tree over 1000 years old. It is also one of the three major difficult spots on the Nakasendo Road that connected Edo and Kyoto, with a legend of the appearance of the Yatagarasu (a three-legged crow). Don't miss the unique "Goshuin" (a seal stamp given at shrines and temples) and the "Shinano Tree," known as a power spot. This place, with its historic buildings and mysterious atmosphere, is definitely worth a visit!
