The Ameyoko Shopping Street in Ueno is a maze-like shopping street. Just walking around, you can see a variety of products and feel the vibrant atmosphere. Its history dates back to just after World War II, when about 400 repatriated soldiers from Manchuria formed a union to control the shops and it developed into a collection of specialty stores dealing in rare and valuable items. There are two theories about the origin of the name "Ameyoko": one is that there were many candy stores, and the other is that there were many imported goods from America. The shopkeepers have a wealth of knowledge and can double the fun of shopping by talking to them. Why not enjoy communication and taste the deep world?
