History

Explore the History of the Mysterious and Adventurous Island of Tomogashima
The history of Tomogashima begins with the grand adventure encountered by Empress Jingū during her voyage from ancient times. On her return from the Three Kingdoms expedition to Silla, Baekje, and Goguryeo, Empress Jingū was struck by a fierce storm and offered a prayer to the heavens in her desperate situation. Then, a mysterious oracle came to her: "Throw the thatched roof of your ship into the sea and entrust yourself to the current." Following the oracle's instructions, Empress Jingū's ship miraculously arrived at an island called "Tomogashima." It is said that the island later became known as "Tomogashima" or "Friend Island." Tomogashima is also known as a sacred place of Shugendō, and it is said that En no Gyōja started his journey to Mt. Katsuragi from this island. This island, beloved by people since ancient times, will surely stimulate the adventurous spirit as a place where history and mystery intersect.
