The ruins of the castle of the Asai family, a Sengoku warrior who fought against Oda Nobunaga
This is the site of a castle where the Asai family, who were the in-laws of Oda Nobunaga's sister Oichi, lived for three generations. After fighting against Nobunaga, the Asai family was destroyed and the castle was abandoned. However, it has been selected as one of the Hoko Eight Views, and the view of Lake Biwa that can be seen from Kotani Castle is also very beautiful.

Using a car is convenient and recommended for visiting the ruins of Kotani Castle. It's a 15-minute drive from Nagahama Interchange, or a 5-minute drive from Kotani Castle Smart Interchange. The "Kotani Castle Midway Parking Lot" located halfway up the mountain is available for free, so be sure to check it out. If you're using the bus, you can access the castle by taking a bus for about 20 minutes from JR Hokuriku Main Line "Nagahama Station" and getting off at the "Toyokoen-mae" bus stop, which is about a 5-minute walk away.
